Well, some success today on getting the '57 project done. I know this thread isn't about the '57, but it's what is holding up progress on my '37, so I suppose I'll update how I'm coming along. As mentioned, I had hoped to have this '57 project done a week and a half ago, but I'm still working on it.
I couldn't get the main cap off so after trying for who knows how long yesterday and almost breaking a chisel I made this tool today made from the bolt that broke off the rear main cap and a broken piece of steel mailbox post that I pulled out of the front yard with my truck last year.
This tool took about 5 minutes to make and after getting it cooled off it took about 4 seconds to get the cap off.
